Sioux B47G-3B1 A1-410

A1-410 was manufactured by Bell Helicopter Company, Fort Worth, Texas, USA constructors No 3410 under an order given in August 1964 for an additional 17 aircraft and was received by the Australian Army, 16th Army Light Aircraft (ALA) Squadron based at Oakey Queensland on 5 November 1965. A1-410 was transferred to the RAAF Museum at Point Cook, Victoria in June 1975. The Sioux was withdrawn from service in 1977. Authority was given for the transfer of the aircraft to the Museum on 21 January 1991, with the aircraft arriving at the Museum on the 21 May 1991.

No 161 Recce Flt operated Sioux helicopters in Vietnam with the call sign 'Possum', with eight aircraft being lost over the six years of operation without the loss of a pilot. The aircraft were also used for medical evacuation duties with stretcher platforms fitted the undercarriage cross tubes. Australian and Thailand were the only military operators of the Sioux in Vietnam.
